Caravaggio Comes to Valletta - The return of a Knight


The Portrait of a Knight
(Palazzo Pitti, Florence) 
Caravaggio's painitng The Portrait of a Knight will be arriving in Valletta early afternoon on the 9th October 2007 and is expected to be well received by the general public. The painting which will be brought over as part of the 400th Anniversary from the arrival of Caravaggio to Malta in 1607 forms an important part of the celebrations. The Portrait of a Knight will be put on exhibition at St. John's Cathedral in Valletta and can be admired together with Caravaggio's largest and only signed painting The Beheading of St. John and an other painting portraying St. Jerome. Caravaggio's Portrait of a Knight will be arriving in Valletta from the Palazzo Pitti, Florence, thanks to the joint collaboration of the efforts of the same Gallery in Florence, Italy, the Italian Embassy on behalf of the Italian Government, the Government of Malta, the St.John's Cathedral Foundation and many more stakeholders and sponsors.
