On the occasion of the National Feast which marks the bravery of few who fought and died for the well-being of many, the Valletta Local Council organised a commemorative concert at ‘Pjazza San Gorg’, the very spot where this historical event occurred. The concert featured leading Valletta bands; National Philharmonic Society 'La Valette' and King's Own Philharmonic Society.
Mayor of Valletta Dr Alexiei Dingli stated in his speech that "A united Valletta worked hard for ensuring a dignified remembrance of this occasion". The two professional bands delighted the audience with a gentle mix of classical symphonies. The Valletta Local Council also plans to organise more events which while commemorate landmark events in history, enable the cohesive society of Valletta flourish and expose its talents. This event was one in a chain of events which the council is organising to achieve this aim.
The ceremony was presided by His Grace Archbishop Paul Cremona. An audience of about 250 people attended the event while a significant crowd also enjoyed the concert from the benches and modules in Pjazza San Gorg. The audience included Valletta Councillors, Members of Parliament, Ambassadors and representatives from both philharmonic societies. The Mayor of Scala, Italy, who is in Malta for talks with the Valletta Local Council about cooperation between the two cities, also attended the concert.
