The Valletta Local Council welcomes the new modules installed in Merchants’ Street as being yet another initiative to regenerate this important street in the Maltese Capital City. These modules are a natural progression after the paving and pedestrianisation of the said street a few years ago. These uniform tables and chairs modules will attract more people to the streets of Valletta and inject new activity and life. The Valletta Local Council in collaboration with the Merchants’ Street Business Community and the Old Motors Club Malta will inaugurate this initiative next Friday 3rdJune 2011 with a special Vintage Car Show which will arrive from Sicily. The 60 vintage cars will be exposed for free in Merchants’ Street throughout the whole day.
One of the main targets of the Valletta Local Council is to stimulate the commercial activity taking place in Valletta while boosting the city with new activities. Mayor of Valletta, Dr Alexiei Dingli emphasised on various occasions the importance of injecting life in different areas of Valletta in order to distribute the high visitors’ density along different areas of Valletta. This project specifically aims to attract more visitors to Merchant Street. "Now we don't have any excuse not to visit the Capital City in the evenings. We expect to see this street and other areas of the city bubbling with life once again especially during our long summer nights!" he said.
