The Valletta local council engaged itself in a Youth in Action democracy project with a group of young people from Iceland. The first part of the exchange involved the Icelandic group visiting Valletta and spending a week discussing the theme of democracy with their Maltese counterparts. This visit also involved visits to the Parliament and other places with a direct link to democracy.
In August, it was the turn of the young people from the city of Valletta to visit Iceland. During their stay in Iceland, the Valletta youngsters were accompanied by council official Gabriella Agius and Valletta Councillor Vince Farrugia. During their stay, they discussed the theme of democracy in workshops and other activities. This helped the young people to appreciate democracy further and perceive different way of how this ought to be practiced.
The event was concluded upon their return from Iceland on the 31st of August. Welcoming the Valletta group at the airport, the mayor Dr. Alexiei Dingli said these events are important since they help people appreciate the topic itself but above all it is an enriching experience for the youth of our capital city.
