St Elmo Listed on the 100 Most Endangered Sites around the World
The Valletta Council has applied to the World Monument Watch (WMW) to list Fort St Elmo as one of the most endangered monuments in the world. The WMW falls under the World Monument Fund, an influential non-profit organisation that helps towards the preservation and conservation of endangered historical buildings and sites around the world. The application was filed to expose the dangers threatening St Elmo on an international level in an attempt to source international funds for the conservation and preservation of the fort as a historical monument. St Elmo is listed among the endangered sites along with St Petersburg City, the Nynphaeum Farnese in Rome, the Joan Miro Foundation in Barcelona and Famagusta Walled City in Cyprus, among others.
