Organised by the Ministry for Tourism, the Environment and Culture and the Malta Tourism Authority, Fete De La Musique is a concept of musical performances which originated in France in the early 80’s.
The purpose of this event is to celebrate the longest day of the of the year through music, turning it as it may be into the longest most enjoyable night of music and dance.
There will be one main stage where bands will be performing. This will be located in upper Merchants Street (by the Auberge D’Italie) and there will be a variety of musical genres, with performances starting from 18.30.
The day chosen for the Maltese Fete De La Musique coincides with similar festivals all over the world. The purpose of this entertainment is to promote music in two ways: Amateurs and professional musicians are encouraged to perform in the streets. The title Fete de la musique has actually a double entendre in its homophonic version. It means making music in a festival of music thus promoting its own goal.
This year, the festival will have both local as well as foreign performing artistes. Through the French Embassy there will be a guest of honour Matthieu Chédid who is a well known multi-instrumentalist, and has a great following in France.
Attendance to this event is free of charge.
