Il-Bieqja u... Ceramics Exhibition
From: 9/10/2009 To: 22/11/2009
By Sina Farrugia Micallef: exploring the theme of vessels, containers and receptacles - bowls, yet not the mere common bowl as we know it, but bowls as artworks in their own right. From the hemispherically-shaped object which has a distinct function, to a decorative and artistically relevant item which has no other scope and purpose other than an aesthetic one. The bowls have also been created utilising a variety of textures, at times harsh and rough almost as though a layer of material or cloth were embedded within the medium's layers, and at other times given a glossy finish. Furthermore, several of these bowls reveal figures, forms, and even tell a story, portraying some kind of narrative. A number of wall hangings complement this show, some in series, some tying to the theme explored in her bowls. Venue: The National Museum of Fine Arts daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (last admission: 4.30 p.m.)
